Information on the Fairmont Early Risers
Club Meeting Time & place: 6:45 am every Wednesday at the
Ranch Restaurant in Fairmont
Programs: The 2nd Vice-President is in charge of programs. He/She will ask members to help by being responsible
for arranging for programs for a full or partial month sometime during the
year. Programs are usually 20 minutes in length. The club pays for the
speaker’s meal and gives them a pen and brochure.
Badges: Should be worn at every meeting to help new members
become acquainted. They are kept in a box where each member has a numbered
slot.
Drawings: Members put a quarter in the container which is passed
around and the speaker draws a number to determine the winner of the money.
The winner must be wearing a badge to be eligible. You may keep the money
or turn it over to the treasurer for the Club's use.
Happy Money: (Usually $1.00) is put in a special container.
Members may tell of special happening in their life, brag, or share
whatever is on their mind.
Meals: You pay for your meals as part of your dues. There is no
reimbursement for missed meetings/meals. Guests who are prospective members
may eat free, courtesy of the Club.
Prayer: The member who is responsible for programs leads the
prayer.
Attendance: Members are expected to maintain regular attendance
and to strive to obtain a perfect attendance pin. Missed meetings may be
made up by attending a Club Board meeting (1st Tuesday of each month at
6:30 a.m. at Ranch Restaurant), by visiting anouther
Kiwanis Club, or by participating in a project or special Club event.
Attendance requirements may be waived by the Executive Board for leaves of
absence for four weeks or more.
Officers & Board Members: Voting takes place at our annual
meeting which is the 1st meeting in May. They assume office on October 1.
Officers serve for 1 year terms:
President
1st Vice President
2nd Vice President (responsible for the programs)
Secretary Treasurer
Past President (responsible for November pancake feed)
Six board members serve for staggered 2 year terms.
Dues: We bill semi-annually (April & September) for $150.00.
This covers our meals and dues to Kiwanis Division, District, and
International Organizations. A member may be disciplined if they are over 2
months in arrears. Dues are our only revenue source for
administrative/training expenses. All fundraising, happy and
lottery/drawing money is used for charitable projects.
Publications: Your dues pay for 10 issues a year of the Kiwanis
magazine and the Minnesotan. The periodically published BKO (Bulletin for
Kiwanis Officers) is circulated, Monthly Newsletter containing club
activities, special events, etc. is usually available.
Recruitment: Since recruitment is by selective process (ie. Must be invited by a Kiwanian)
it is each member's responsibility to be constantly seeking prospective
members. Members must be at least 18 years of age and engaged in or retired
from an occupation. The steps are:
- Invite them to a meeting
(the Club pays for the meal)
- Have them get an
introduction to Kiwanis packet from the Membership committee
- Have them turn in an
application form with a $50.00 processing fee. It must have the
signatures of 2 Kiwanis members in good standing
- The board decides on
admittance and informs the applicant of their decision.
- New members are
installed periodically (at a special event if possible)
